Today’s recipe is a wonderful, delicious and super healthy smoothie that I intend to drink while pomegranates are in season. Yes, pomegranates are the stars of this recipe!
While I love all spices for pumpkin and love a good fall latte, sometimes my body craves something lighter. All fruit, no dairy, something you can mix up in one second and be ready in the next.
Because we love pomegranate
Found in the writings and artifacts of many ancient cultures and religions, the pomegranate (Punica granatum) is native to Persia. This nutrient-dense, antioxidant-rich fruit has long been considered a symbol of health, fertility, and eternal life.
Pomegranates contain high levels of flavonoids and polyphenols, powerful antioxidants that offer protection against heart disease [source] and different types of cancer [source 1, source 2]. Additional health benefits of pomegranate include lowering blood pressure [source] and contribution to cardiovascular, nervous and skeletal health.
With an impressive nutrient profile, including potassium, folic acid, fiber, and vitamins C and K, pomegranates also have significant anti-inflammatory properties, which may lower your chances of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and type II diabetes.
The pomegranate fruit offers a host of health benefits and should take a permanent place in our healthy body regimen. If you’re not sure how to incorporate the wonderful fruit into your diet, this pomegranate smoothie is a great place to start.
Antioxidant-Rich Pomegranate Smoothie
Pomegranate seeds are not only super healthy, they taste great too! Its sweet and sour flavor is low in calories, while its jewel red color creates an Instagram-worthy style.
In this shake we have combined pomegranate with frozen raspberries, for an even more intense color and an extra load of antioxidants; a little banana for creaminess; plus vegetables and seeds for even more health benefits.
