With layers of colors like the waves of the sea and flavors of tropical fruits, this Blue Lagoon Cocktail it’s as refreshing as a summer breeze!

blue lagoon drink

The Blue Lagoon is a classic cocktail popular in resorts and vacation destinations. With its bright blue color and tropical flavors, it’s a perfect refreshing cocktail for a day at the beach!

The basic recipe is vodka, blue curaçao, and lemonade – it’s quick, easy, and bright blue all over!

We added a little twist to this easy recipe to give it a layered look. This ombre effect creates a beautiful drink that changes from yellow to green to bright blue!

Tastefully our version of Blue Lagoon still has that fresh citrus flavor you’d expect, with a hint of sweet pineapple to give it that tropical vibe.

It’s the perfect drink to cool off on a hot summer day or to share with friends by the pool. Or imagine being on the beach, even if you’re stuck in the house! It’s hard to feel grumpy with such a fabulous drink in hand!

Instructions

While this drink recipe sounds whimsical, it really does take very little time to make! It’s essentially a 2-step recipe, with two layers to make. But it should only take about 5 minutes total!

1st layer

Combine vodka, pineapple juice, and lemonade in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to combine, then strain and pour the mixture into a tall glass of crushed ice.

2nd layer

Slowly pour the Hpnotiq or blue curacao liqueur over the drink, mixing as little as possible. (It will blend over time on its own, creating a blue-green gradient look.) A little trick I use is to place a spoon with the curved side up against the side of the glass, then pour it over the spoon so that the top layer slowly drips and overlaps with less batter.

Top with a splash of lemon-lime soda.

Garnish with mint leaves, orange slice, maraschino cherry, or one of your favorite tropical beverages!

Frequent questions

What is Hpnotic?

Hpnotiq is a French liqueur infused with exotic fruit flavors. It is a bright blue color which makes it perfect for this recipe!

If you don’t have it on hand, you can substitute Blue Curacao or Alize berry flavored. Any fruity blue liqueur can work here! Blue curaçao is an orange flavored liqueur, so it will be a bit different from Hpnotiq, but it will also mix perfectly!

Can you make it into a frozen drink?

Absolutely! Tropical drinks lend themselves well to the frozen state and are very refreshing! All you need is a blender to make it happen.

To make it into a frozen drink, simply triple the amount of ingredient. It doesn’t have to be an exact fit, as your blender size may vary from mine, but keep the same basic recipe ratio.

Put the ingredients from the first layer in a blender with ice and blend until smooth and grainy. Pour into your glass.

Rinse blender and add second layer ingredients (minus soda) to blender with ice. Pour over the first layer.

I leave the soda out when I make an iced drink because it fizzes too much when I mix it. Instead I just add a little more juice.

TIP: Freeze the juice in ice cubes so you can make your own frozen drink without diluting it.
