Main ingredients

All three layers of these Peanut Butter Truffle Brownies are easy to make and only require a few simple ingredients.

  • brownies – You will need a canned brownie mix or a double batch of these chocolate chip brownies. If you’re using a canned mix, you’ll also need the ingredients found on the back of the box.
  • Butter – softened unsalted butter
  • Peanut butter – The filling is best made with a creamy peanut butter such as Jif.
  • marshmallow fluff – Adds a soft and fluffy texture to the filling.
  • vanilla extract and salt – Adds a good balance of flavor.
  • Thick cream – It is used to make a creamy ganache topping.
  • Chocolate chips – Use your favorite type of chocolate for this layer. Milk chocolate chips, semisweet chocolate, or dark chocolate chips are good options.

How to Make Buckeye Brownies

These Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies come together so quickly because they start with a box mix. When they are cool, add the seasoning and devour!

  1. Cook the brownies. Mix brownie mix and ingredients from back of box. Spread the brownie batter into a 9×13 pan and bake. Cool to room temperature.
  2. Prepare the peanut butter truffle filling. Beat softened butter, peanut butter, marshmallow creme, vanilla and salt until smooth and creamy. Add the icing sugar and cream until the filling is slightly spreadable.
  3. Assemble the brownies. Spread peanut butter filling evenly over cooled brownie layer. You may need to use your fingertips to press into place.
  4. Prepare the chocolate ganache. Place the whipped cream and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl for 30 seconds. Mix until melted and creamy. Pour the chocolate over the filling and spread evenly with a spatula.

Storage Tips

  • Store– Store peanut butter brownies in a covered container on the counter for 2-3 days. You can also keep brownies longer by covering the pan tightly and refrigerating for 5-7 days.
  • To freeze– Cut the glazed brownies into squares. Place on a baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour. Then wrap each brownie in two layers of cling film. Place in a freezer bag or container and freeze for up to 2 months.
  • Serve – Thaw brownies overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

tips and tricks

  • Cover the pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil. This will help you easily lift the brownies after they’re frosted.
  • A natural peanut butter is not recommended for the truffle filling.
  • Try different chocolate chips based on your chocolate preferences. The milk chocolate will be very sweet, so we generally use semi-sweet or dark chocolate.
  • Cut the brownies with a plastic knife to prevent them from sticking to the knife.

  • 1 – 9 × 13 Canned Brownie Mix

  • 8 tablespoons butter, softened

  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter

  • ¼ cup marshmallow creme

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • pinch of salt

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar

  • ¼ cup heavy cream + 2 tablespoons

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 pan with nonstick baking spray.
  2. Mix brownies according to package directions. Remove from oven and cool.
  3. Beat butter, peanut butter, marshmallow creme, vanilla and salt until creamy.
  4. Gradually add the icing sugar until completely absorbed. Slowly whisk in 1-2 tablespoons of cream until filling is spreadable.
  5. Spread peanut butter filling over cooled brownies.
  6. Place the whipped cream and chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 30 seconds. Mix until melted and creamy. Heat another 15-20 seconds if necessary.
  7. Spread evenly over peanut butter filling and let rest before cutting.


You can also use a double batch of these Homemade Chocolate Chip Brownies minus the chocolate chips instead of a box mix.
