Baked Jicama Chips Recipe

If you’ve never tried them before, jicamas are a Mexican yam that looks like a beet but has a potato-like flesh. The flavor of the jicamas is delicate and sweet and perfect for dressing with all your favorite flavors! But the selling point, in my opinion, is the fact that this versatile root is super low in carbs and sugars, making it a healthier option for things like chips! Get ready to be a fan!

These jicama chips are incredibly delicious. They’re topped with paprika, garlic, and grated Parmesan cheese for a flavor you’ll love! Jicama chips are cheesy and savory with the best hint of hot spices. One bite of these and you’ll be hooked! Combined with the amazing golden exterior they get, this is a perfect health (and ketogenic!) snack to have without sacrificing flavor and texture!

Ingredients you will need

As long as you have the jicama, the rest of the ingredients are probably in your pantry right now! It only takes a few simple ingredients to make these delicious and crunchy chips. Measurements for each of these ingredients can be found in the recipes tab at the bottom of the post.

  • jicamas: You can find them together with other tubers in the supermarket. We recommend peeling and chopping them before you start seasoning them.
  • Olive oil: Helps the ingredients stick together and the outside of the fries gets nice and crispy. Melted butter works too!
  • Grated Parmesan cheese: Everything tastes better with parmesan! Add the best cheese flavor to these baked jicama chips. Try grating your Parmesan cheese for the best flavor!
  • condiments: I used a mixture of minced garlic, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. You can change the amount you add to your liking!

How to make baked jicama chips

It only takes a few simple steps to make these healthy jicama chips! They are great as a quick and easy appetizer or snack.

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
  2. Add the jicama slices to a bowl: In a large bowl add the jicama and fill it with water to cover.
  3. Whiten: Microwave for 10 minutes or until tender. (You can also boil them for 5 minutes on the stove.)
  4. Dry: Filter and dry the jicama.
  5. Season: put them in a bowl with olive oil, garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, parmesan, salt and pepper.
  6. Baking: Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes or until crisp.
  7. Serve: Serve with sauce for frying or ketchup

Tips for Making the Best Jicama Chips

This delicious alternative to frying is one of my favorites. Here are some additional ways to make sure your batch turns out perfect!

  • Whiten: Be sure to blanch the jicama slices before cooking! This will make the inside of your fries beautiful and tender. I like to blanch fries in the microwave. It’s child’s play and gives me time to make the dressing!
  • More ingredients: These baked jicama chips are great for customizing. If you want a little more spice, try adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to your seasoning mix. Cajun lemon pepper toppings are also great for kicking things up a notch!

French fries preservation

These delicious fries never last long in our house, but you can save them and enjoy them later if you have any leftovers!

  • In the fridge: In an airtight container, your jicama chips will last up to 4 days.

Note: I always like to make my fries a little crispy when they’ve been refrigerated for a few days. I recommend putting them in the oven on a baking sheet for about 10 minutes at 400 degrees F.
