Why this recipe works

Grilled salmon – Salmon is so good in almost every way, but grilled is hands down my favorite way to eat it. It gets some of that smoky flavor when it’s grilled and cooks quickly and perfectly, every time.

Easy – There is nothing easier than this recipe for grilled salmon with lemon. Prepare, cook and put on the plate in less than 30 minutes? So easy!

all herbs – Don’t worry too much if you don’t have the “right” herbs. Any combination of 3-4 herbs (or even 1-2 if that’s all you have) is great. Trust me, you can combine herbs in all sorts of groups and it will taste delicious in this garlic salmon.

Lemon – Lemon and salmon go together like salt and pepper, peanut butter and jelly, salt and chocolate… well, you get my juice. I can’t have salmon without at least a little lemon on the end. It makes the flavors so bright and a bit citrusy and that’s just what you want in a grilled salmon in the summer (or any time of year, really!).

Is salmon good for health?

Salmon is one of the healthiest protein sources out there. It is very healthy for you. This is due to the Omega-3 fatty acids it contains. It is also very low in calories and saturated fat. Salmon also contains B12, potassium, niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, folic acid. iron and vitamin D.

Vitamin B12 is known to keep blood and nerves healthy and helps cells make DNA. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that your body needs and that may help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, Alzheimer’s, and some types of cancer.

The protein in salmon is important to help you heal, maintain muscle mass, and ensure good bone health. Potassium helps regulate blood pressure and may reduce the risk of stroke.

For all of these reasons and more, you should be eating more salmon and this garlic salmon is a great way to start!

Can you eat salmon raw?

The short answer is: yes, you can eat raw salmon, but you would only do so at a good Japanese or sushi restaurant where they source sushi quality fish and can guarantee the safety of the raw fish you are eating.

If you buy salmon at the meat counter or buy it frozen and thawed, it’s not a good idea to eat that raw salmon because you can’t be sure it hasn’t been thawed and refrozen before or if it wasn’t sitting at the right temperature, etc.

Side dishes to eat with grilled salmon

Are you looking to make this salmon dish a complete meal? I can help with that. My favorite sides to serve with this garlic salmon include:

  • Barley (recipe below, in the Expert Tips section).
  • A delicious and easy green salad.
  • Or you can just put that healthy salmon on top of the green salad and make it a complete meal.
  • In this sense, other salads such as corn or pasta salads also go very well with this salmon.
  • Throw in some tasty and comforting carbs like mashed potatoes or mac and cheese.

How to defrost salmon?

I almost always thaw salmon in the refrigerator, which takes about 24 hours. If you don’t have that time, you can also thaw salmon in cold water. Not hot water! She will start cooking the salmon. Cold water thaws salmon well in a couple of hours. Change the water if you consider it necessary.

One last option is to thaw it in the microwave. Do this on the proper defrost setting and check to see if it has completely defrosted frequently. Thawing in the microwave can be tricky, as it tends to cook some of the salmon (or whatever you’re thawing) and can make it a bit chewy.
