Are gummy bears healthy?
While they may be low in fat, the traditional gummy bears you buy at the candy store aren’t exactly a health food. This is because they are made primarily of sugar.
In fact, if you look at the nutrition facts for one of the most popular gummy bear brands, the first TWO ingredients are sugars!
However, these homemade fruit juice gummy candies are another story!

- Strawberries: diced
- Unflavored gelatin – you will need 0.5 ounces (which is usually two packets)
- raw honey
- Lemon juice

How many gummy bears does this recipe make?
The exact yield will depend on the size of the mold used. However, if you follow our recipe amounts and use the same type of gummy bear mold, you’ll end up with at least a couple hundred baby bears! We counted about 350 when we made the recipe.
Can you use another type of fruit?
Don’t have strawberries on hand? Do you want to try something new?
You can use almost any kind of fruit instead! Just follow the directions and substitute your choice of fruit. If there are any seeds (like strawberries), be sure to strain the juice!
How to make gummy bears with fruit juice
Add the diced strawberries to the blender with the lemon juice and honey. Blend well until you get a liquid consistency (no big lumps). Pour the juice through a mesh strainer to remove the seeds.
Combine juice and gelatin in saucepan over medium heat. Whisk while bringing the juice to a slow boil. Once it boils, remove from heat.
While the juice is still hot, use a dropper to fill the gummy bear molds. This set of molds from Amazon comes with a dropper…it’s super handy!
Place the molds on a baking sheet to keep them stable, then refrigerate for 20 minutes. This will solidify the jelly beans.
TIP: Keep remaining gummy mixture warm while molds cool. I do this by keeping the saucepan on low heat, stirring occasionally.
When the gummies have solidified, they should pop out of the mold! Repeat until you have used all of your juice mixture.
Note: Babies under 1 year old should not eat honey-based foods.
Do homemade jelly beans need to be refrigerated?
while they don’t need To refrigerate, storing the gummy bears in the refrigerator will help them last longer.
To store, place jelly beans in a ziplock bag or food container with a lid. If you notice them sticking, dust them lightly with cornstarch before storing (like we do with our Jello Gummy Bears).

- 2 cups diced strawberries (or any fruit of your choice)
- 0.5 oz unflavored gelatin 2 typical 0.25 oz packages
- 2 tablespoons raw honey
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Add the diced strawberries to the blender with the lemon juice and honey. Mix well so there are no lumps.

Fill gummy bear molds with juice.
Place the molds in the refrigerator for 20 minutes, until the gummy bears are completely set.
