ingredients

The simple ingredients you need to make this Instant Pot Chili recipe include:

  • Ground beef. This is the traditional meat, but you can also substitute ground turkey, venison, or chicken.
  • Garlic. finely minced garlic is essential for a flavor hit.
  • Onion. A small sweet onion is used, but if you prefer you can choose a yellow or white one.
  • Jalapeno. This chili gives a spicy touch to the chili. The recipe calls for 2-3, but you can use more or less to customize the heat level. Or, opt for poblanos or habaneros.
  • Beans. Like most chili recipes, red kidney beans are used here. But you can add black beans as needed. Canned beans are the easiest, but you can also cook your own beans if you wish.
  • Tomatoes. Canned crushed tomatoes and tomato paste are required. You can use diced tomatoes if needed, but the texture of the chili will suffer.
  • Beef soup. The Instant Pot calls for a little more liquid, and the beef broth adds extra flavor too. You can use water or even chicken broth.
  • Homemade pepper dressing. This seasoning mix of cumin, chili powder, paprika, cayenne, oregano, garlic powder, and cinnamon is so easy to make at home. However, you can opt for a store-bought package. Be sure to taste the mixture and adjust it to your preferences.
  • Worcestershire sauce. Slightly salty and earthy, this sauce adds a unique depth of flavor.
  • Brown sugar. A hint of sweetness really balances out the salty flavors of the chili.
