FREQUENT QUESTIONS:

What is the magic shell?

Magic Shell is a fun liquid chocolate ice cream filling that hardens once it hits cold ice cream.

How does the magic shell harden?

It hardens because coconut oil returns to a solid state at room temperature and is liquid when heated. Then, once the magical shell hits the cold ice cream, the coconut oil inside immediately begins to return to its solid form.

What type of chocolate is best to use with this?

This is a personal preference. I love using Hershey’s milk chocolate. But any chocolate will work, dark, semi-sweet, or even white chocolate. Use what you like best.

Can I use fat or butter instead of coconut oil?

No, this recipe works well (and tastes better) with just coconut oil.

Should I use refined or unrefined coconut oil?

I like to use refined coconut oil because it has less of a coconut flavor.

Can I use freeze dried marshmallows?

You can use those little marshmallows (similar to the ones used in hot chocolate packets) instead of mini marshmallows. However, it will have a different texture than his magical shell.

How to toast mini marshmallows like in the photos?

You can place the mini marshmallows on a baking sheet and use a kitchen torch to toast them. Let them cool down a bit and then place them on top of the magic shell.

How do I store leftovers?

This can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature where it will keep for up to 1 month. To reheat it, you will just need to microwave it (in a microwave safe container) for 20-30 seconds until it has thinned out.
