Sweet, tart, and deliciously refreshing, my Cherry Limeade margaritas are the stuff of summer dreams. Made with real cherries and fresh limes, these delicious adult beverages are a far cry from pre-packaged versions that are loaded with artificial colors and flavors.

Make a batch in your blender using just five simple ingredients in five minutes. Your guests will surely thank you!

This is great, if I do say so myself. There are days when I crave a big mug of cherry lemonade filled with Sonic crushed ice to quench my thirst, especially after a day in the field watching my kids play games.

Because you will love this recipe.

After a day of watching Blake play baseball in the sun, there’s rarely something I crave more than a big cup of Sonic cherry limeade with crushed ice to quench my thirst. While I still love my takeout dish, I don’t like to fill my body with artificial ingredients. Luckily, I discovered the secret to making this brightly colored libation at home using just four ingredients!

I was inspired by this cherry lime recipe – I loved that your recipe was so rustic and simple compared to toothpastes I had seen online. Most recipes are made with maraschino cherry juice and lime concentrate, but this one is all fresh, made with real cherries and limes.

While healthy fizzy soda is delicious on its own, adding it to a shot of tequila has become my latest obsession. These Cherry Lime Margaritas have all the sweet and sour flavor I want, plus just enough to get me excited. They are the best way to relax after a long, hot day.

You don’t need a cherry pitter, but if you have one, this delicious concoction comes together in minutes. Add pitted cherries, lime wedges (skin and all), water, sugar, blend and filter, that’s it. Put the cherry lime in a pitcher and refrigerate. Above all, he does enough to share. So, what are you waiting for? We’re leaving for Happy Hour!

Ingredients and Substitutions

As promised, you don’t need much to make really good cherry lime margaritas. Here is your shopping list:

  • cherries – I used sweet red cherries, but feel free to swap them out for fan-favorite Ranier cherries. If you don’t have a cherry pitter handy, you have a few options: grab a bag from the frozen aisle, or try one of these 5 methods.
  • limes – You’ll be mixing in the zest and everything for a superior lime flavor. Make sure you wash them well before butchering them!
  • Waterfall – Use filtered water for best flavor. If you’re making a plain cherry lemonade without tequila, consider using just 2 cups of plain water in step 1 and using club soda for the rest.
  • Granulated sugar – Feel free to switch to agave nectar instead.
  • Ice – If you want the true Sonic-style experience, you can invest in a countertop nugget ice machine. Otherwise, I find that crushing regular ice cubes does a good job. Just be sure to use filtered water for the best flavor.
  • White Tequila – I love the light, citrusy flavor of white tequila for these lime margaritas. Feel free to change the vodka if you prefer!
  • soda water – I love the big bubbles of sparkling mineral water like Mountain Valley Spring Water or Topo Chico, but feel free to use sparkling soda if that’s what you have on hand.

How to Make Cherry Lime Margaritas

Step 1: mix. Combine the cherries and limes in a blender with the sugar and 2 cups of water. Blend until ingredients are mixed.

Step 2: filter the juice and add the rest of the water through a strainer.

Step 3 – Tap and Serve. Add cherry lime to cocktail glasses filled with ice, add tequila, garnish with a splash of sparkling water, and garnish with cherries and lime wedges. Cheers!

Frequent questions

Can I make cherry lime in advance?

Certain thing! If I’ve planned it right, I like to blend lemonade in the morning before I go to every game so I have plenty of time to rest in the fridge. Once mixed, it should last about 5 days in the refrigerator. You can also freeze it in ice cubes or popsicles if you want it to last even longer!

Can I make a non-alcoholic cherry lime cocktail?

Absolutely! I suggest following the recipe through step 1, then using sparkling water to complete the batch after filtering it. A little more fizz goes a long way! If you want to spice it up even more, consider using a lemon lime soda like 7UP or Sprite.

What are the best cherries to use in this recipe?

While most cherry and lime recipes call for maraschino cherries in canned sweet syrup and frozen lime concentrate, this cute thirst quencher is made with real sweet cherries and fresh limes. I suggest using Bing, Ranier, or sweet cherries here. If you opt for a more acidic variety like Montmorency or Morello, you may want to bump up the sugar content a bit to compensate.
