How to Saute Beef and Broccoli

In a small bowl, add the liquid aminos, beef broth, unsweetened honey, toasted sesame oil, and Sriracha, then mix and set aside.

Advice: Put the steak in the freezer for 10-15 minutes first, then it will be easier to get nice thin slices.

Cut the flank steak into thin slices, going against the grain.

Advice: Cutting the steak against the grain makes it much more tender and not chewy.

Add slices to a shallow bowl and drizzle with ¼ of the sauce mixture. Toss to coat meat evenly and marinate in refrigerator for 1 hour.

Wash, dry and cut the broccoli into florets, then place them in a microwave safe container and steam them for 4-5 minutes. Alternatively, you can boil it, making sure the broccoli is well-drained.

Advice: Note that you want to cook the broccoli just until slightly tender but not mushy so it will hold together when you add it to the other ingredients.

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil, and sauté the steak for about 2 minutes. Remove steak and set aside.

Advice: Since the steak will finish cooking in the sauce, make sure not to overcook it at this stage or it may get tough.

Add the garlic and ginger, saute for about 15 seconds, then add the sauce.

Cook for 1-2 minutes or until thickened, then add red pepper flakes (optional), beef, and broccoli to skillet and sauté.

Continue cooking just until heated through.

Pour over the cauliflower rice and serve with the sesame seeds on top (optional).

Are beef and broccoli healthy?

The beef and broccoli portion of the recipe is super healthy. After all, broccoli is a nutrient powerhouse for vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants. And steak is always a great source of protein.

But unfortunately, most traditional beef and broccoli recipes use brown sugar or honey to give the sauce that stickiness and hint of sweetness that you know. All that added sugar is unhealthy and out of the question for low-carb or ketogenic diets.

But there is great news! The classic beef and broccoli recipe achieves low-carb, healthy processing by using a delicious substitute for honey. It really does look great in this marinade recipe and many other tasty recipes that normally call for honey. I used this honey mustard sauce that got great reviews.

How many carbs are in beef and broccoli?

For a hefty serving of this beef and broccoli, there are only 5 net carbs, most of which come from the carbs naturally found in broccoli.

Is soy sauce keto friendly?

Soy sauce doesn’t have a lot of carbs and little to no sugar, which is why some people add it to their list of keto condiments. But if you’re following a Keto diet for inflammation, we recommend that you avoid any soy products.

This is why I use liquid aminos in most of my Keto recipes. If you prefer to use soy sauce or coconut aminos, you can definitely do it in a 1:1 ratio.

Flank Steak FAQs

What cut of meat is used for beef and broccoli?

Flank steak is the best choice for beef and broccoli because it really absorbs all of those wonderful flavors from the marinade. In addition, it is a cheaper cut of meat than others.

If you can’t find a flank steak, you can use sirloin steak, flank steak, or roast beef.

How do you cook broccoli?

You want to quickly brown the meat, so it’s best to brown it at a medium-high temperature. Another key to cooking the best beef with broccoli is not to cook everything in front too long, because once the beef and broccoli have been added to the sauce, it will continue to cook.

Should I cut the steak before or after cooking it?

I always recommend cutting it first. The reason you want to slice the steak before cooking is that you want the marinade to actually cover all sides of the steak slices. This is the key to giving the meat the amazing flavor you’d expect from a really good stir fry recipe.
