hamburger pizza

Since we tend to eat BUBBA burgers a bit, I also enjoy creating new flavor combinations. One of the newer ones was something I had as a kid but my kids still didn’t like: pizza burgers. I mean, what kid doesn’t like pizza or hamburgers?

They’re great for busy weeknights or a quick weekend meal, even for lunch! And if you’re following a low-carb lifestyle, skip the sandwich and you’re good to go: a meal everyone can enjoy.

We can make them on the grill or in a pan, even the air fryer, and whatever the cooking method, they are ready in just 10 minutes.

what will you need

  • BUBBA burger- BUBBA burgers have only one ingredient: 100% select beef, and this is very important to this author of beef cookbooks. They are rich in protein and quality and very affordable.
  • english pancake– All those nooks and crannies are great for an open face bun. BUBBA burgers are quite large, so look for a good sized muffin. Feel free to swap it out for another type of bread too. I generally use two backgrounds and keep the breakfast plans (they are usually not that wide).
  • pizza sauce– The kids like a simple marinara sauce, but I add a dash of Italian dressing. I prefer not to put much on the actual burger, but instead serve a small bowl on the side for dipping. You can also use our rich marinara sauce.
  • Mozzarella cheese- Don’t hold back on the cheese! I use a thick slice of low-moisture mozzarella for the creamiest, cheesiest result.
  • mini peppers– Mini bell peppers are the ideal size, but you can also cut them into regular size slices in quarters.

How to Cook a BUBBA Burger

You have options when it comes to making your BUBBA burgers. For convenience, I used a cast iron skillet inside, but there are other options.

  1. Place frozen patty directly on a preheated grill (350°F indirect heat) or skillet (medium heat).
  2. Wait for the juices to rise to the top without moving the burger and DO NOT press down with a spatula, for about 4-6 minutes. Browning is a good thing, it helps develop natural flavors!
  3. Flip the BUBBA Burger over and bake for another 4-6 minutes or until done.
  4. While the burgers are cooking, toast the bottoms of the English muffins under the broiler. Times for light browning vary greatly by grill, so be careful. Remove when toasted.
  1. Brush the burgers with pizza sauce, mozzarella, and peppers, then place on top to let the cheese melt, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from pan and place on toasted English muffins.
  2. Serve with extra marinara for dipping.

Leftovers

What leftovers? English muffins don’t tend to store or reheat well, so if you need to reheat one, I recommend toasting a fresh muffin and then reheating the burger yourself.

Reheat in a skillet or quick microwave then assemble the burger from scratch just like the original instructions.

variations

  • We made them over Original BUBBA burgers, but the toppings complement any variety: turkey, vegetable (vegetarian) or Angus and original beef. They can be found in the meat or frozen food section of your local grocery store. And after eating the burgers, put the toppings.
  • Use your favorite pizza toppings. Crumbled sausage, chopped bell peppers, ricotta wisps, spinach, fresh tomatoes, or any other favorite pizza topping.
  • Throw out the bread and go low carb!
  • Arrabiata Pizza: Swap out the basic pizza or marinara for a spicy arrabiata sauce or a sprinkle of chopped chili flakes.
