Sesame Pancakes – Semolina » Simple and Healthy Recipe! ✅

Enjoy these pancakes for brunch or a light lunch. Or pair it with fried eggs and salad for dinner. —Devangi Raval

  • 2 cups of semolina

  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt

  • 1/2 cup of water

  • 1 tablespoon ginger paste and green chillies

  • 1 chopped green chilli optional if you prefer a little more spice.

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves (if you don’t like them, don’t add them)

  • 3 tablespoons green bell pepper, finely chopped

  • 3 tablespoons tomatoes, chopped

  • 3-4 tablespoons onions, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup of oil

  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons white sesame seeds

  1. Take the yogurt and whisk it and then add the water. If you have buttermilk, replace it with yogurt and water. Combine ginger chili paste, salt, and green chilies and mix well.

  2. Add the semolina and mix well. Add a little water if you feel it is too thick. the dough should not be too thin or too thick.

  3. Finally, let it sit for about an hour or, if you have time available, for about 2 hours. Many times I have made them without letting them rest, but what makes the difference is that if you let them rest, the yogurt helps ferment the dough and gives it a little more flavor. Remember, the grits will consume the water once you let it sit.

  4. When you’re ready to make them, add the chopped greens and coriander leaves. Mix well. At this point you may or may not feel like adding additional water. Feel free to do this if you need to. Now, take equal amount of mustard seeds, cumin seeds and sesame seeds in a bowl and mix them together.

  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add a teaspoon of oil about 1/2 teaspoon, add the cumin, mustard and sesame seed mixture and be careful at this point the sesame seeds will go haywire and start to sprout so fast and can splash. your face, so be careful and immediately pour the batter over the sesame mixture and spread it out a bit like making sweet pancakes. You can make them thin if you like or thick. totally up to you.

  6. Cook them on one side, you’ll see the difference in the batter once they’re cooked on one side and then flip to the other side, add a bit of oil to moisten. Let it cook for about a minute, then remove.

  7. Serve hot from the plate with coriander/mint chutney.
