This tuna dish is a great staple as it only takes twenty minutes from start to finish and works well with a side of salad or vegetables. I’ve included celery, chives, and bell peppers in the recipe, but it works just as well with other vegetables, whatever you have in the fridge or freezer. Sometimes kids enjoy sweet corn and peas better, so switch up their flavor if you prefer (just be aware of the higher carb content of the root vegetable).

Tuna is excellent for weight loss as it is rich in protein. Protein is vital for the healthy functioning of cells, tissues and organs, as well as stimulating metabolism and providing energy. Tuna is also low in fat, saturated fat, and calories. Oatmeal is very effective in lowering blood pressure and contains soluble fiber that lowers cholesterol.

Celery is a storehouse of amazing health benefits, not to mention the fact that one stalk contains just 10 calories, making it great for weight loss. The high water content, combined with insoluble fiber, makes it ideal for constipation, and the phthalides can reduce stress hormones in the blood, helping to keep blood pressure down. These phthalides also stimulate the secretion of bile juices that act to lower cholesterol levels. Celery helps in the elimination of uric acid as it has diuretic properties (stimulates urination). Therefore, it is useful for those with bladder or kidney problems, such as cystitis or urinary tract infections, and can relieve pain from gout or swollen joints. The remarkable presence of vitamin C prevents free radical damage and strengthens the immune system.

Bell peppers can improve health and weight loss, especially red bell peppers which contain the most vitamin C. Bell peppers are an excellent source of vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids) and vitamin B6. Garlic has an amazing flavor and is known to help prevent illnesses like colds and flus.


4 6-ounce cans drained pickled tuna (185 g per box)

½ cup oatmeal

3 beaten eggs

1 celery stalk, chopped

1 cup of small chopped bell peppers

1 garlic clove crushed

2-3 shallots, minced

Optional = 1 tablespoon cajun seasoning or spices for added flavor


Put all the ingredients in a large bowl and mix.

Heat the pan with 1 cal spray.

Form into cake shapes.

Put in a pan and brown on each side for 5 minutes.

Serve with a large green salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

Serves 7-8.
