Start the day with an anti-inflammatory elixir with turmeric honey » Simple and Healthy Recipe! ✅

We’ve had a long winter without fresh local produce and its many nutrients, and this is the time of year we start paying for it. We’re at the height of the health imbalance just before the onset of spring, and our bodies often give in to the late-winter cold and flu. And then we take over-the-counter medications for these illnesses, adding an additional burden to our already tired liver.

As we look forward to sunny days, the only thing we can do to ease our transition to spring greens galore is to get back to natural health boosters once again. For me it’s always about the turmeric.

The benefits of turmeric for the body

Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antiseptic, turmeric offers numerous body care benefits [source]. Curcumin, the compound that gives turmeric its bright color, has a wide range of health benefits.

Helps reduce the body’s inflammatory response that can lead to joint pain and stiffness. The spice also helps the brain produce more serotonin and dopamine, which can relieve insomnia and improve mood. [source].

While I add turmeric in varying amounts to just about everything I cook (soups, stews, sauces, teas), I decided to upgrade my morning lemon water with a drizzle of turmeric honey, too. Inflammation is at the root of most modern illnesses, and adding turmeric to your daily diet is one of the easiest ways to start reducing it.

Turmeric honey + anti-inflammatory morning drink

Mixing turmeric with honey gives you a versatile combination that you can add to lemonades, smoothies, or even spread on toast. For me, it was about turning my morning hot water into an anti-inflammatory elixir.

The warm lemon water wakes up my metabolism, while the turmeric soothes heartburn and inflammation. Honey acts as a prebiotic and, together, prepares the stomach and intestinal microbiome for a new day of challenges.

Opting for a cup of warm lemon water in the morning can help you feel more energized and alert (thanks to the citric acid in the lemon), plus you may not want (or need) coffee to start with. And giving up coffee has its health benefits!

You can also use this turmeric honey to add a bit of sweetness to a golden milk before bed. The warm flavor and velvety texture of Golden Turmeric Milk make it a soothing drink to soothe your digestive system, relax your mind, and prepare you for restful sleep.
