Garden fresh tomatoes are simmered in a sweet and salty mix of sugar, vinegar, and seasonings to create a condiment you’ll love!

You’ll level up every recipe, from sandwiches to burgers to eggs to vegetables! Do this with red or green tomatoes.

What is tomato jam?

  • Dense and meaty, tomato jam is a sweet and savory tomato-based condiment.
  • This jam is sweet (as jam should be) with a touch of spice and a little warm (if you like it).
  • It is easily prepared on the stovetop and can be stored for weeks in the fridge – no canning required!
  • This quick and easy addition to surprise at parties, picnics and barbecues.
  • This is one of those great “garden gifts” to give if you have a large supply of summer tomatoes. Everyone loves a jar of homemade tomato jam. Most importantly, it freezes for up to 6 months!

Ingredients and variations

Tomatoes – No need to blanch and peel tomatoes for tomato jam! Any fresh tomato will do, however fresh Roma are best because they have a thin skin and are meaty like canned Marzanos.

Sugar – Honey is a natural sweetener that dissolves easily in tomato jam. You can use brown sugar, molasses, or even sugar free Swerve, however the end result may not be as gelatinous as the original recipe calls for.

Condiments – The apple cider offsets the acidity of the tomatoes, but the level of the serrano pepper is up to you. Satisfy your heat and wear as much or as little as you like. A pinch of cayenne pepper, Tabasco sauce, or a dash of Sriracha can be substituted for minced chilies.

Additional components Cracked black pepper, diced shallot, or bacon bits will make your tomato jam recipe stand out!
